We are excited to celebrate the 44th anniversary of the Tallinn TV Tower, the tallest structure in Estonia and Northern Europe! Opened on July 11, 1980, this iconic tower stands at an impressive 314 meters and has become a significant cultural and tourist landmark. Designed by architects Juri Sinis, David Baziladze, Andrus Kõresaar, and Raivo Kotov, with engineering by Jevgeni Ignatov and Vladimir Obõdov, the Tallinn TV Tower was constructed over five years.
Visitors to the Tallinn TV Tower start their journey with a captivating 3D action movie about the tower’s history. They then ascend to the observation decks at 170 and 175 meters, enjoying stunning panoramic views of Tallinn and beyond. The tower also boasts a unique open-air terrace, the only one of its kind in Northern Europe, where guests can experience the thrill of being 175 meters above ground.
For those seeking an adrenaline rush, the Edge Walk offers a unique opportunity to walk on the edge of the tower’s 175-meter-high viewing platform. The VR experience, located on the 21st panoramic floor, allows visitors to virtually walk on the edge and fly around the tower, offering a breathtaking perspective of Tallinn. Additionally, visitors can test their knowledge with the TV Tower Smart Game, an engaging quiz spread throughout the tower, and brave the floor-to-ceiling windows on the 21st floor for an exhilarating view straight down from 170 meters.
As is tradition, the Tallinn TV Tower hosts a variety of exciting activities to celebrate its birthday. This year, from July 11th to 14th, visitors can enjoy a vibrant mix of events and performances, including:
- BASE Boogie Parachuting Competition: Witness 50 jumpers from 15 countries perform breathtaking jumps from the tower.
- Pirita Blues Concert Series: Enjoy blues performances by artists from Tartu, paying homage to Tartu as the European Capital of Culture 2024.
- Sylvain OULALA’s Unicycle Performance: On Bastille Day, July 14th, watch Sylvain OULALA set a world record as he rides his unicycle on the tower’s open viewing platform.
The celebration includes activities for all ages, such as children’s attractions, outdoor cafes, and various workshops. Guests can also enjoy the thrilling Edge Walk, the exhilarating virtual reality experience, the engaging TV Tower Smart Game, and the breathtaking floor-to-ceiling windows.
Happy 44th birthday, Tallinn TV Tower! On behalf of all members of the World Federation of Great Towers, we extend warm wishes to you and look forward to many more years of sky-high thrills!
