Top 5 Things To Do at the Sky Tower Auckland

Today we celebrate the 25th birthday of Auckland Sky Tower. The Sky Tower is a fantastic vantage point on the city and provides spectacular views of the harbor and surrounding areas. Operating since 1997, this 328-metres-tall giant is a proud member of the World Federation of Great Towers and attracts over 400,000 visitors per year. It’s one of the most iconic landmarks in Auckland, so it’s worth taking some time out to explore it up close.

Although there are plenty of things to do at Auckland Sky Tower, for this special occasion we’ve prepared a list of top 5 coolest things to do in this monumental structure:

  1. Orbit 360° dining experience

Is there anything more spectacular than to having a fine dining experience at the height of 190 meters above ground? Sure there is! It is, of course, to have the restaurant you are dining in rotate 360 degrees around its axis every sixty minutes, encouraging you to explore the unmatched panoramic views of the city and its surrounding. On a clear day guests can see as far as 82 kilometers from the Sky Tower! The view stretches as far north as Leigh Peninsula, as far east as Great Barrier Island, as far west as the Waitakere Ranges, and as far south as the Bombay Hills. It goes without saying that the wonderful food and wide selection of cocktails offered are bound to make this moment in the clouds a truly unforgettable one. 1. SkySlide – an immersive VR experience

Have you ever had a Virtual Reality experience? If the answer is no, we would certainly recommend SkySlide, a new virtual reality experience taking place at 186m above the city. With the help of cutting-edge VR technology, guests gets transported into the 360° real-world simulation, wherein the transcendental voyage takes place. Once inside, guests find the Sky Tower wreathed with a swarm of wriggling glass tubes, which the guests, consequently, get to ride as a roller coaster at the terrifying (or, rather *breathtaking) velocities and altitudes. Fantasy or not, this refreshing way of seeing the tower and the city will leave no one indifferent. Check more information about this attraction right here and get ready for a complete immersion!

  1. Sky Deck

The Sky Deck offers guests mesmerizing 360-degree views of Auckland and the Hauraki Gulf through virtually seamless glass. According to some, the views are best seen at sunset, when the sun sets over the city’s skyline. Sky Deck is located on level 60, making it the highest public observation level in the Sky Tower. Excitingly, as of recently, SkyCity started ‘Hire Sky Deck’, offering Sky Deck as a prime location for private events capable of hosting up to 100 guests. If you are still not sure where to host your next art exhibition or cozy corporate party, we would look no further!

  1. Yoga in the sky

Whether you are a local or a tourist, nothing beats the serenity of casting out the sun salutation on a Sunday morning. Imagine keeping up with your yoga practice high up in the clouds, 186 meters above the hustle and bustle of the city. Classes take place on the 27th floor with an excellent view of the city. Their spacious studio has air conditioning, mood lighting and mats for everyone, so don’t worry about bringing your own! You can find more information and join the class here.

  1. Sky Jump

This is an experience that all daredevils will truly love. Have you ever wondered what it would feel like to fly among the clouds? The Sky Jump comes with a helmet and goggles to make the experience even more realistic. The attraction has been open since 2004, and has done more than 1 million Sky Jumps in that time. If you are looking for a place to go with your adventurous friends or family this summer, then this is definitely an option worth considering. After 11 seconds of pure adrenaline, with virtually nothing but a wire suspending you in the air at 192 meters above ground, the world will surely feel different. Learn more about this spectacular experience here.

Extra fun: throughout the month of August, the Sky Tower has planned a variety of celebrations for their 25th anniversary. The online ticket price for adults has been decreased to $19.97 to match the opening year. The tower will lit up on 3rd August, as a part of their birthday celebration, and to make things more exciting, the public has been invited to select the colors of the lights on preselected dates. The birthday month will be filled with special cocktails, a mini art gallery at the observation deck, fun entertainment, and discounts on Sky Walk and Sky Jump. Be sure not to miss out, and join the celebration!
